Long-Nosed Butterflyfish
Also known as: Forcepsfish
Scientific name: Forcipiger flavissimus
Long-Nosed Butterflyfish - Photographed around the Maldives
This distinctive fish has a nearly identical close cousin with an even longer nose, which is more rare. The long nose is used to probe coral crevices and cracks for eggs and small invertebrates. They are commonly found in pairs or small groups.
Please note: Identification of fish, corals, etc. is a tricky business. It's entirely possible that I've incorrectly identified a photo I've taken. If you spot an error, please contact me so I can correct it and improve this resource.
